Panel Competition
Rules
Competition Format
This competition has three sections - for monochrome prints, for colour prints and for Projected Digital Images.
Monochrome Print Panel Trophy
Originally known as the Alec Braid Silver Medal, this Trophy was first awarded to the late Mr Alec Braid, by the Caterham Institute Camera Club, in 1904. The Medal was donated to CCCC in 1973 by Mr Alex T Braid to be awarded in the competition on the theme "The Countryside in the UK".
At the 2007 AGM "The Countryside in the UK" theme was dropped, and this competition is now open to panels on any theme.
Colour Print Panel Trophy
The original trophy, known as the Alec Braid Shield, was purchased by CCCC in 1978 for the colour print section of Alec Braid Panel Competition. The winner of the colour print section of the competition holds the Shield.
PDI Panel Trophy
The origin trophy, the Alec Braid Bronze Medal, was first awarded to the late Mr Alec Braid, by the Caterham Institute Camera Club in 1905. Like the Silver Medal it was donated to CCCC in 1973 by Mr Alex T. Braid to be awarded in the competition on the theme "The Countryside in the UK".
Rules
1 Members may submit the number of panels of three digital imaged as published by the committee for this competition. Panels should be prioritised such that if there are more entries than the judge can be expected to judge then a limit will be implemented.
2 A Monochrome Print is defined as ‘a black and white image or a black and white image which has been modified by the addition of a single colour to the entire image'.
All other images are defined as colour images, so are not eligible for the monochrome competition.
3 The copyright of original elements used in a competition entry must be held by the author.
4 An independent judge will be invited to select the best set of three digital images.
5 The Trophy will be presented to the member judged to have produced the best set of three digital images at the Annual Prize Giving, to hold for one year.
Further Guidance on Panel Competition Entries
The panel competitions are divided into 3 sections, the winner of each section receiving a different trophy. There is no restriction on content or theme, but all sections require each submission to comprise three (3) images to be presented side-by-side as a single panel, example below.
The 3 sections are:
Colour Prints – 3 mounted prints (preferably no larger than 40cm wide)
Monochrome Prints – same as above
Projected Digital Images (PDI) – 3 images conforming to the current standard TPS format requirements – see PDI Guidelines from the General Rules button below on how to create PDI submissions.
All submitted print panels are displayed together on the club easels, and viewed under normal room lighting. Because of space constraints, members are requested to limit the width of their mounts to no greater than 40cm. For aesthetic reasons, mounts should normally be of the same size and colour for a single panel.
PDI panels should be entered on the PhotoEntry system in a similar way to other PDI competitions. You first supply a title for your panel, and then upload 3 images to make the panel. Only when you have supplied all 3 images is the panel accepted. Please ignore the option to supply a title for each individual image as this will be ignored by our display software.
The panel is initially displayed as 3 images side by side, in equal amounts of screen space, and with the bottoms aligned, so ideally all images should be similar sizes or they will look higgledy-piggledy.
Members may submit only 1 panel in each section. The competition will be judged by an external judge, who will select an outright winner in each section, as well as lower placings and possibly commendations.
