Out and About

  • Crossness Pumping Station Bazalgette Way Abbey Wood, London, England, SE2 9AQ United Kingdom (map)

Come and visit this miracle of Victorian engineering and beauty of internal architecture. This was constructed in the 1850s to pump sewage away from central London. It has not been in use for many years so there is no smell. There are two large steam engines inside operating huge rocking beams - unfortunately it will not be ‘in steam’, but one attraction for us is the painted Victorian ironwork which has been beautifully restored.
